About the Artist:

From my earliest memories, I have loved animals. As a baby, I crawled next door to be with the neighbor’s dog rather than staying in our own yard. As a girl, I discarded dolls so I could dress my stuffed animals in doll clothes. As a teen, I took my first art class and have been drawing animals ever since. I have only recently discovered acrylic paints and I love them for their colors, consistency, and versatility, I flavor mixed media, working paper collage into acrylics. I might paint anything in nature, but I prefer animals. I try to capture some special aspect of the animal on the canvas, something unique about how it looks, acts, moves, or lives.

When someone looks at one of my paintings, I hope they will see not just the image, but the spirit of the animal itself

What inspired you to create this “The Cow Who Wanted to be a Turtle”?

I am a zoologist who has worked around the world at places like the San Diego Zoo and Taronga Park Zoo in Sydney, Australia. I completed my thesis work in the Galapagos Islands off the west coast of Ecuador, where I studied the giant tortoises. During my travels, I observed and photographed wildlife. Now, my experiences and my memories inspire my artwork.
