Title: A Song in My Heart
Artist: Janine Wesselmann
Sponsor: Aetna

An internationally renowned artist, known by critics and collectors for her parodies of European and American social life, Janine Wesselmann has been listed in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who in American Women.

Her extensive travels and experiences, ranging from embassy soirees to revolutions in third-world countries, have resulted in a lively style that combines a cosmopolitan sensibility with humor, and the rich colors of Renaissance painting with the light touch of the Impressionist. Across four continents and three decades, Wesselmann has painted a vanishing world of bazaars and fortunetellers, French cafes and old-world galas.

"A Song in My Heart" depicts the visual grandeur of the Garnier Opera House in Paris, by showing the rhythmic flow of the crowds on the Grand Staircase, as they leave the Opera House. Her whimsically titled "Can-Can Heart-Heart" captures the spirit of Toulouse-Lautrec's Paris.

A graduate of Cornell University in Design, Wesselmann is the recipient of numerous awards and accolades, including Outstanding Contribution to the Arts in 1992, and Cultural Emissary to France in 1997.
