The City of Perth will play host to 40 life-size designer cows and a cheese festival in a new community event that is part of the largest and most successful public art program in the world.CowParade Perth 2016 will feature 40 cows which are on their way to the capital for a festival and public parade beginning in November this year.

Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said the life-sized fiberglass cows would be painted and styled by celebrated emerging, mid-career and senior local artists and fashion designers. The cows will be exhibited for six weeks from early November throughout the City in malls, parks, iconic buildings and precincts, with some auctioned at the 2016 Lexus Ball for Telethon, which raises money to support child health research.

COP Cow Parade“We are excited to be staging this world-class event in Perth, which has been a great international success in cities such as New York, London, Tokyo, Paris and Hong Kong,” Ms Scaffidi said. “Large-scale, unique events like the CowParade attract a broad range of visitors to Perth and inject solid economic benefits to our State – helping business and retail sectors to flourish.”

According to Ms Scaffidi, the event timeline of six weeks will offer unprecedented opportunity for visitors to access the City and explore its many treasures. “We are proud that our home grown creative talent will put Perth on the map as a global arts and cultural destination, joining celebrated designers and luminaries such as Romero Britto, Patrick Hughes, Kate Spade, Vivienne Westwood, Radiohead, David Lynch and Christian Lacroix – who have all previously painted and styled Cows in past parades.”

Ms Scaffidi said a limited number of corporate partnership opportunities were available from the Perth Public Art Foundation to provide an opportunity for organisations to engage with the CowParade Perth 2016.

Complementing the CowParade is the inaugural and highly anticipated Festival Fromage which will take place at Perth Town Hall between 11 and 14 November. The City of Perth sponsored event is coordinated by Fromage Artisans. The Festival is a high end city-wide celebration of cheese that promises to ignite taste buds at a picnic in the gardens surrounding the Town Hall. “The festival also features a Culture Series for the truly cheese obsessed as well as cheese making workshops,” said Ms Scaffidi.

As part of the festival program, high-end hospitality venues will create unique cheese dishes for Decadent Fromage, which will run in parallel to CowParade Perth 2016. Over the six weeks visitors can purchase and vote for their favourite cheese creation. The third slice of the cheese wheel is Top Fromage developed for all City of Perth businesses to come up with their own take on a special cheese dish which could be anything from a toasted sandwich to a soufflé.

“Supported by the City of Perth, these events will bring the City to life in the lead up to Christmas festivities.”
