About the Artist:

Gini Griffin, a transplanted New Yorker, studied for a fine arts degree at Pitzer College of the Claremont Colleges and attended graduate school at Claremont Graduate School and at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, obtaining a teaching credential in art.  She has worked as a resource art specialist and as  a consultant to San Luis Coastal Schools, creating and presenting arts courses for the gifted.  She is the founding director of Young Artists, a fine arts program for SLOMA, is a fine arts grant recipient for the California Arts Council, and was awarded the arts in education award by the local Arts Obispo.  Her artwork involves painting, drawing, clay, mixed media, fiber design and quilt making.  Her work had been exhibited throughout the United States, is in the permanent collection of SLOMA and archived at the National Museum of Women in the Arts.  She also restored the murals at Julia Morgan’s Monday Club on Monterey, been commissioned to paint murals both public and private, and has created multiple public art pieces throughout California.

Why did you paint this livestock liberty “Red, White, and MOO”?

Red, white, and Moo is a playful title for a serious subject.  In this contentious year of election battles, I thought it would be a chance to remind people of our shared love of country, the promise of unity, and the opportunity for progress if divergent groups work together.  The swirling patterns of red, white, and blue are intended to depict the vitality and variety inherent in American life.
